Criterium

A Criterium is a short-distance race, where riders compete around a lapped circuit to complete the most laps possible in a short amount of time.

The Southampton Crit will be a city centre based route around the two main city centre parks! This wide and fast track will make for some quick and exciting racing within a large pack.

Entries for the Southampton Crit will open in the new year, be the first to hear about it by registering your interest!

The Route

Criterium Categories

The Southampton Criterium has 10 different waves that you can enter depending on your age and experience with the first horn getting the Primary School Ride underway at 11am and the final finish flag coming down just after 9pm with the Men’s E/1/2/3 race and so much in between!

11:00 – Primary School Ride – Non Competitive
The first group out on the Southampton Criterium course will be primary school aged children out for a 20 minute ride!

11:30 – Secondary School Ride – Non Competitive
Then it will be the turn of the older children to pick up the pace in another 20 minute ride!

12:00 – Regional Youth Series – Youth B (Under 14’s) – Competitive
Our first competitive race at the Southampton Sporterium will be a one hour race for under 14 British Cycling registered Cyclists! This event will up the speed and give you the chance to see the next Bradley Wiggins or Chris Hoy.

13:15 – Regional Youth Series – Youth A (Under 16’s) – Competitive
Then we have our under 16’s British Cycling Series Race, for the older children who want to compete at a high level.

15:00 – Charity Criterium – Competitive
Do you have a cause that is close to your heart, that you want to raise money and awareness for? Compete in our Charity Criterium to support your favourite causes! 

15:45 – Sports Club Criterium – Competitive
If your team want to have a social day and show off their dominance away from their support then bring a group down for the Sports Club Crit!

16:30 – Corporate Criterium – Competitive
Calling all businesses and business owners, come to the track to add to your list of successes with a team building race.

17:30 – Women’s E/1/2/3/4 – Competitive
The first big race of the evening is one for the ladies! All British Cycling registered Women are eligible to take part in this distance to compete against each other in a nail biting contest.

18:45 – Men’s 3/4 – Competitive 
The penultimate race of the night allows British Cycling Category 3 & 4 Men with race licences to get out on the circuit as the night heats up!

20:00 – Men’s E/1/2/3 – Competitive
The final race as the lights have gone down will showcase the best riders that the South East can show for an action packed hour of racing with the crowds coming out of local pubs to watch the showcase race!

What do you get for entering the Criterium

The Southampton Crit will be taking place across the day and into the evening of the 20th of June 2020, culminating in a high octane top class race in the evening with everyone else having a chance to give a Crit racing a shot throughout the day!

The event will be taking place on a closed circuit around Southampton City Centre, giving you the chance to go as fast as you can in a safe, car free environment!

By entering into the Criterium Series you will get a chance to test yourself, an experience that cannot be replicated, support from 100’s of spectators and a chance for BIG prizes
