With the launch of the Southampton Sporterium event in October having such a great reception, we are now reaching out to local charities and business to get more and more people involved! We are excited to announce that the first charity to sign-up is Naomi House & Jacksplace! The children’s hospice charity, based in Sutton Scotney, can offer charity places in either the 60km or 100km Sportive event and hope that keen cyclists will take part to fundraise for them.
Charlotte Patrick, Events Fundraiser at Naomi House & Jacksplace, said: “We are over the moon to be the first charity involved in the Southampton Southampton! Event organisers, ReesLeisure, are huge supporters of ours, placing us as the lead local charity for the Winchester Half Marathon and we have spaces for the annual ABP Southampton marathon, so we are hugely grateful for the opportunity to be involved in another local city event. We hope cyclists taking on the 60km or 100km Sportive will be motivated to do it for a worthy cause and support the life limited and life threatened children and young adults in our care.”
The Sportive will be a picturesque cycle through the Meon & Test Valleys with feed stations along the way and no rush to complete in a set time. The routes are perfect for cyclists of any ability and with the 60km course we hope to encourage those who may not have taken part in a Sportive event before.
Kate Warne, Community Liaison Office at ReesLeisure, said: “We are pleased to be able to offer local charities places in the event and will be able to extend this to include the Criterium, which opens for registrations in January. Just like the Sportive, we hope to welcome cyclists to the Criterium who may not have taken part in this kind of event before, with a charity wave taking place in the afternoon. We are thrilled that Naomi House & Jacksplace are the first charity to join us for this event and cannot wait to welcome more fantastic partners!”
